School Council

What is a School Council?

A school council is a group of students who are elected to represent the views of all pupils and to improve their School. The School council can also take forward projects on behalf of the pupils, and be involved in planning and things like the School development plan, governing body meetings and interviewing staff.

What does a school Councillor do?

•          Go to school council meetings and take part in discussions

•          Let the class know what was discussed at meetings.

•          Take views of classmates to the School Council

•          Be involved in projects that the School council runs

After going to a School Council meeting, Councillors need to tell their class what happened so that other pupils know what the Council is up to. This is called reporting back and it can be done straight after the meeting, when it is easier to remember what was decided.
